A chef-prepared breakfast awaits each morning in the 19th-century chapel, and throughout the day a home-baked treat from our chef is delivered to your suite, while a carefully chosen selection of local produce is kept stocked in your kitchen — all complimentary, all considered, all part of what it means to stay here.

Every morning at Pīhopa begins in the same place. Our 1877 chapel is the setting for one of the most memorable breakfasts in New Zealand: individually prepared dishes chosen from a daily menu, alongside freshly baked muffins and croissants, homemade granola, fresh juices, and barista coffee and fine teas. Produce is sourced as locally as possible, with much of it grown in our own kitchen garden immediately outside.
The Pīhopa Estate
A world-away, just minutes from Nelson
Few city-centre hotels can offer anything like this. Established in 1862, Pīhopa’s 5.5 acres of parklike grounds are a genuine sanctuary – heritage woodland, winding garden pathways, a productive orchard, and the kind of quiet that is increasingly rare, broken only by the sound of birdsong.
Borrow one of our bikes to explore the nearby cycle trails, or simply wander, sit by the fire pits, and stay a while. The estate borders a 2.4-hectare native reserve, and is shaded by protected landscape trees more than a century old. All of it just minutes from Nelson’s vibrant city centre.
